A dirty car, a loose handle, a missing wheel on your office chair, the unfinished shelving, unfiled papers, a book you’ve been wanting to read, a class you haven’t yet taken, the vacation that keeps getting postponed, etc., etc., etc.

All of these little things that you have learned to live with are zapping your energy – whether you know it or not.

Think about it – what have you been putting up with?

Make a list of all of the activities, people, circumstances that drain you of your energy.  List everything you’ve been putting off, procrastinating (i.e. booking a vacation, fixing the toilet, etc.), any subject that consumes your energy (unfinished business with someone, being overweight, etc.), extreme energy drains (working too many hours on a regular basis), minor energy drains (not planning healthy meals, going to the post office).

Start eliminating things from this list!  The more you eliminate, the lighter you’ll feel, and the more energy you’ll have for the things that are truly important to you!  So many of the energy drains can be handled easily but JUST DO IT, hire someone to DO IT, LET IT GO (great for emotional drains), CHUCK IT – free yourself!

Then get to an emotional, mental, or physical gas station and FILL UP!  Believe me; I know it’s not possible to eliminate every single energy drain.  For those, just make sure you make an energy pit stop before and after, i.e. before heading over to the in-laws do a 10-minute meditation and take a run afterward 😉

Tips:
  • Schedule time and specific ways to refuel.
  • Cross things off the list and admit you are not going to do them!
  • Improve processes (even at home) to eliminate extra steps.
  • Change the way you think about the drain; change your perspective.
  • Schedule the small and big stuff in your calendar and get rid of the “to do” list!
